Seven Ways to Get You and Your Kids Ready for Easter This Year
As Easter quickly approaches, it’s never too early to start getting prepared for this meaningful holiday. While you might not do as much to prepare for Easter as you do for Christmas, there are still plenty of steps you can take to make this Easter memorable for both yourself and your kids.

Not only will these steps remove the stress from those last few days before the holiday arrives, but they’ll also make sure your whole family remembers the true meaning of Easter and why it is the premier date on the Christian calendar. How to Prepare Your Kids for Easter
#1: Build a List of Activities
As a good starting point to put yourself in the Easter spirit, sit down and write out a list of potential activities that you could do with your children in the lead-up to Easter. Don’t worry about the details at this point or even if you actually want to do all of the activities. This is more of a brainstorming session just to get things down on paper and see how it looks.
It could also be helpful to have a calendar out during this session (either physical or digital) so you can start to lay out some of the activities and see how everything would fit together. There is never as much time as we would like, but with careful planning, you should be able to blend Easter activities with “real world” obligations in a way that works for the entire family.
#2: Plan the Outfits in Advance
With the timing of winter turning into spring just as Easter arrives, this holiday is often a time to break out some new outfits and finally feel free from a long, cold winter. You don’t want to get the family up for church on Sunday morning only to find that you aren’t sure what everyone is going to wear, so start early picking out the right clothes—or finding some new pieces, if necessary.
You will often find that the youngest members of the family need some new Easter clothes as the outfits they wore last year may no longer fit. Involve the kids in the planning process to make sure they can pick out some colors they will enjoy. Of course, you’ll probably want a nice family photo to mark the occasion, so make sure all of the various colors and patterns are going to work well together!
#3: Spend Some Time In God’s Word
You certainly don’t want to let the Easter season slip by without using this opportunity to teach the youngest members of your family about the meaning behind Easter and why it marks such an important event. Even children who have learned the Easter story previously will enjoy hearing it again and will be reminded of how Easter serves as the foundation for what the Christian faith is all about.
#4: Pick a Recipe and Try It in Advance
Whether you are having people over for the holiday or it will be a small affair with just immediate family, tasty food is a must-have on Easter Sunday. Not only is it a good idea to find a delicious recipe in advance that will be suitable for the group, but you might also want to pick a day to make that meal once just to iron out any issues and make sure you can execute it perfectly when the time comes. The family can get in on the taste-testing process to provide feedback, and you can tweak the recipe as you go.
#5: Enjoy Quality Music
Easter is a joyous occasion, and there is nothing like music to put people in the mood to celebrate. Kids' Easter music is an important part of the season as a whole, as it will not only help the young people connect to the message, but it will also get them excited to engage in the whole experience.

#6: Make Easter Baskets
Putting together Easter baskets for all of the kids in the family is a great opportunity to personalize the holiday for each of them. Strategically pick out the kinds of items that each young person will appreciate, and consider adding one or two Biblical pieces to reinforce what Easter is about in the first place.
Another great way to use Easter baskets is to make additional baskets that can be shared with those in need. Consider connecting with an organization in your area that helps the less fortunate and see if there is a way you could donate Easter baskets to young people that they assist. Then, by having your own kids help to build those baskets, you’ll be sending a clear message that Easter is about helping others and sharing the Gospel.
#7: Create a Great Egg Hunt
We have saved for last the activity that most kids will think of first. You probably don’t need to be reminded that the kids are going to want to hunt for eggs on Easter, but it’s helpful to note that planning out your egg hunt at least a little bit ahead of time will make things easier. Where are you going to do the egg hunt? Weather will often play a role in that decision, so watch the forecast and adjust as necessary.
While there is nothing wrong with a traditional egg hunt, you might consider adding a twist to the experience just to make it more exciting for the kids. As one idea, you could put clues in some of the eggs, and those clues will serve as a treasure hunt to lead the young ones to a certain place where another surprise will be waiting. If possible, you could also look for a church or community egg hunt that your kids could join in on, or you might even decide to organize one yourself. Easter is a great time to foster a sense of community, and the egg hunt is usually a big highlight.
